She had a passion for interior design since she was young. During an interview with WBIR, she revealed that when she was young her father allowed her to redo her room.
“My dad let me redo my room here in Knoxville. One of my friend’s moms was an interior designer. She helped me sit down and put together how you would do a bed, how you would do drapes, how you would do all the things and I’m like that’s so cool.”
After the experience, she loved the creativity and knew she wanted to pursue interior design but didn’t know where to start. She went to school to study biology but later switched majors to interior design.

Mary is the host of HGTV’s Braking Bland alongside co-host John Frick. The series set in Charleston, S.C., help clients find their perfect design match for their dream homes.
She joined HGTV after a local production company RIVR Media noticed her beautiful house. The company came calling to shoot a sizzle, a pilot, and eventually a show. That’s when HGTV picked it up.
Fox had moved to Charleston, South Carolina and wanted to renovate their house which they bought while it was in bad shape. It had black mold, termites, wood rot and asbestos. Builders encouraged her to tear the house down she wanted the house.
