Jennifer Gray CNN Biography

Jennifer Gray is a CNN meteorologist based in Atlanta. She has AMS Seal of Approval from the American Meteorology Society and is a member of the National Weather Association.

She joined CNN in November 2013 from WTVJ, the NBC owned station in Miami. She was the weekend morning show meteorologist and a featured reporter. She covered severe weather and helped specials that focused on hurricane preparedness and safety. She co-hosted and co-produced ‘Florida Insider Fishing Report’ for Sun Sports and ‘Beyond The Reef’ in conjunction with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, raising awareness of conservation issues facing the oceans and Florida’s fisheries.

Jennifer is the daughter of the late Steven Dauenhauer (father) and Ann(mother). Her parents divorced and they both remarried. She was brought up alongside her siblings Jay Dauenhauer and Jordan Beeman. She also has step -siblings from his father’s second marriage; Beau Raines, Russell Raines and Christina Raines .

Gray’s father, Steven Dauenhauer, was a air force veteran and microbiologist. He joined U.S. Air Force, after graduating high school in 1966, first at LSU, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology, and then full time until 1974 in Munitions Systems, while earning both his Master’s degree and Ph.D in microbiology from the University of Southern Mississippi.

He then left active service and returned to reserve duty, acting at Barksdale’s 2nd Medical Group Hospital and Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center. He was recalled to active duty in 1991 for support operations in Operation Desert Storm. By the time he was retiring in 2008 he was a Colonel.

In addition, he served as Director of Microbiology of the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport since 1985. In 2019, alongside his wife Susan, they served as on the Electronic Health Record Modernization Committee for modernizing veteran’s care records.

He also served as a microbiology lab consultant for Christus Good Shepherd, Longview Regional and Roy H. Laird Memorial Hospitals in East Texas.

In 2012, he was asked by a colleague at VA to join for an extras casting call for Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen (2013)” this led to Steve landing a walk-on role in the War Room scenes he went on to land extra work in the WGN TV series “Salem (2014).” he received SAG credentials in 2016 for a role as the judge in Simon Rumley’s “Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word.”

Steve died unexpectedly on August 2, 2019 in Bossier City, Louisiana at the age of 70.

Jennifer is married to Chris Warren, a fellow meteorologist who co-anchors a 4-hour weekday weather and news program for The Weather Channel. The couple got married April 30, 2016. 

Jennifer was previously married to Brad Reeves, the couple got married on March 31, 2011 in Florida but they divorced in May 2013.

Jennifer is a meteorologist for CNN based in Atlanta. She joined the net work in 2013 while she was in the middle of a contract negotiation with WTVJ. During her tenure, she has covered the Hurricanes Florence and Michael, as well as the devastating California wildfire season, one of the deadliest on record.

In 2017 she reported on the impact of climate change on Tangier Island, Virginia, a community that could be uninhabitable in 20 years due to rising water levels and erosion. The report promoted a response from President Donald Trump who contacted the mayor of Tangier directly to discuss the threats facing the community.

She previously worked for WTVJ, the NBC affiliate in Miami, as the weekend morning show meteorologist and a feature reporter. She co-hosted and co-produced ‘Florida Insider Fishing Report’ for Sun Sports and ‘Beyond The Reef’ in conjunction with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, raising awareness of conservation issues facing the oceans and Florida’s fisheries.

During this time, she covered hurricanes, tornados, record heat waves, ice storms and flooding; and she reported from live events, including Super Bowl XLIV.

Jennifer is a carrier of a genetic mutation that makes her prone to clotting. At the age of 25, while working at NBC 6 in Miami, she began experiencing prolonged fever and body aches. She tried four different antibiotics and the doctors kept telling her it was a Urinary Track Infection (UTI). One Sunday she could barely stand in front of the camera and she finally went to the ER as she experienced shortness of breath, severe pain in her lungs, and it was all getting worse.

After undergoing several tests the doctor found pulmonary emboli (PE) in both lungs – the largest measuring 9.9mm. After several other test they found she was a carrier for factor V Leiden. She also tested positive for several other anticoagulant antibodies that make her more prone to clotting by 50-fold. She also found out the birth control pills she was on also triggered the clot. A few weeks later, her sister found out she also carries factor V Leiden.

Jennifer Gray Fishing

Gray has a passion for fishing and ocean conversation. Her favorite type of fishing is backcountry fishing, which is done in the flat, calm waters of the Florida Keys and Florida Bay. She has even participated in a tournament circuit, often being the only woman competing. Her love of fishing was impacted by her grandmother who lived in a remote farm in Waterproof, Louisiana and would hand her the simple rod hooked with either a cricket or a worm and the two of them would fish together on the farm’s pond for hours.

Her passion for fishing has also come in handy in her career as she hosted Florida Insider Fishing Report and Beyond the Reef in Florida. She also championed the conservation of Florida’s fisheries and ocean life.
