Karina Carvalho teams up with Weather Specialist, Jenny Woodward, Monday to Friday nights at 7 pm on ABC1. She began her journalism career in Perth after graduating with a broadcast degree from the WA Academy of Performing Arts.
Later, she moved to London to gain additional experience and landed a job with the BBC, where she worked as a producer for BBC World News and the HARDtalk program. Karina spent her time at HARDtalk on assignments all throughout the United Kingdom and in the United States.
In 2005, she covered Pope John Paul II’s death and the London bombings, as well as the Lebanon War in 2006. Karina returned to Australia in 2007 and began working as a TV and radio reporter for ABC News in Perth before gaining the position of Western Australia’s 7 pm ABC News anchor, which she held for three and a half years.
In 2012 she relocated to Melbourne where she co-hosted ABC News Breakfast on ABC1 and ABC News 24. She was one of the last journalists to interview author Bryce Courtenay before his death, and she covered the recent flood catastrophe from Brisbane.
She took over as presenter of ABC News Queensland from David Curnow in April 2013. She was named presenter of ABC Evening News on ABC News in January 2018 and relocated to Sydney. Matt Wordsworth took her position on ABC News Queensland.
