Jennifer An Kanye West Lawsuit
In November 2024, Jenn filled a lawsuit accusing Kanye of sexual assault. She also named Universal Music Group (UMG) as a defendant for failing to investigate the incident when it occurred which she said she believed was intentional to try prevent it from ever coming to light, especially because the final edit for the music video does not feature Ye or Jen at all.
Details of the lawsuit
Jenn claimed that in 2010 when she was on the set of La Roux music video “In For the Kill,” at Chelsea Hotel Kanye West arrived at the set and “took control of the production and the production team.” He ordered he models to line up so he could judge their appearances and when he saw Jenn he said, “Give me the Asian Girl.” She was wearing lingerie for the shoot and felt uncomfortable at his command, which involved him leading her to a suite with a couch, chairs, and cameras in it.
Kanye allegedly began chocking her first with one hand and then forcefully strangling her with both. He also wiped his hands over her face before ramming several fingers down her throat to “emulate forced oral sex.” During the incident, An alleges Kanye screamed, “This is art. This is <expletive> art. I am like Picasso.” The intensity and force of the sexually motivated incident made An feel like she had “temporarily blacked out,” left her understandably traumatized.
According to the document, Jenn’s claims were backed up by Liz Martins, a make up artist who was on set that day who wrote that she saw West “forcefully put his fingers down [An’s] mouth and told her to, ‘Suck on them.’ This sexual assault was not a part of the script. Everyone on set was shocked and nervous to step in because of Kanye’s influence. Afterwards, [An] was crying and I heard her repeatedly say, ‘My mom is going to see this. I don’t want my mom to see this.’”
Another collaborator is Michelle An, La Roux — a.k.a. Elly Jackson as well as a third-party private-investigation firm that tracked down other crew members on the shoot, who both recalled West sticking his fingers down An’s mouth.
The case has not gone to trial and Kanye’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss earlier this year, argueing he should be protected by the First Amendment which safeguards free speech because the encounter occurred in the course of producing expressive art. They also noted that Jenn did not object at any point, nor express a lack of consent to participate or attempt to leave the performance.
They said An was “by all interpretations of her complaint… a consenting participant in the stage performance”, and that West said the encounter was supposed to be an homage to American Psycho “which incidentally may have caused the Plaintiff [An] to have difficulty breathing”.
Jenn’s lawyer has however said that it would be a “really dangerous precedent to set” for artists to feel they were allowed to “basically do whatever they want to, whomever they want in creative spaces, and get away with it as long as they call it art”.
BBC Interview
On June 10, 2026 while appearing on the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast she recalled the sexual assult she underwent in 2010 while appearing as a model for a music video in which Kanye was making a cameo appearance. At the time Jenn was 24 years old and was hired to appear in the La Roux’s hit song In For The Kill.
Jenn said the team was mid shoot when Kanye walked in and took over the set. Shortly after the lined up in the hallway and Kanye chose three girls to be in the scene with him including Jenn.
She alleges that after the filming of his part began he forgot his lines and shouted cut, and turned his attention to shooting a different scene. He pulled one chair in front of the camera and positioned himself in a chair behind the camera, facing An but out of shot. “I didn’t know what was gonna happen, I was given no direction. I was just told to sit in this chair.”
She alleges that after the music started and cameras were rolling he began choking her. “All of a sudden he just reaches a hand out and starts choking me, and I’m just not sure what’s happening and then, he pulled his other hand out and starts choking me with both hands, and then starts smearing my makeup all over my face and sticking his hands inside of my mouth.”
She added that the way he used his hands in her mouth “simulated oral sex” adding that she felt he was trying to touch as much as he could. She said that despite having other people in the room, no one intervened and were all staring at her. She said the encounter ended when Kanye “yelled something like, ‘this is art, I’m Picasso’. And shortly after that, he was just like ‘OK, I got what I want’. But he just abruptly got up and left.”
When asked whether she tried to stop it, she said “No, I didn’t because I didn’t know what I was doing… I was more frozen, it’s like ‘I could lose my job’.”
After the alleged encounter, she said she spoke to La Roux, real name Elly Jackson, who apologised for what had happened and promised not to air the scene.
Jenn reached out to La Roux in 2024 via Instagram asking if she remembered the alleged incident to which the singer responded that she did, adding: I could never forget that, it was horrific.” She also said that Kanye knew exactly what he was doing and thought it was funny. She added that “He whispered to me ‘I bet you think I just put women back about 10 years’. I responded, ‘You just put women back about 500 years’.”
