Janel Forte has served as NewsNation’s Atlanta correspondent since March 2021.She previously worked for Houston’s KHOU 11 television station. She opened NewsNation’s Atlanta desk, making her the renamed network’s first Southeast reporter.

Forte graduated from L.D. Bell High School. At L.D. Bell, she received three letters in a row. Three times she was named to the all-district team. She also served as team captain as a senior and helped her team win the district championship as a freshman. Forte was chosen to the all-tournament team at the 2008 Arlington ISD Tournament. She also lettered twice in basketball and four times in track and field, including first place in discus at the 2009 5-5A district finals.
Forte was also a three-time Academic All-District performer in volleyball, basketball, and track, and was named Academic All-State in both volleyball and track as a senior. Forte helped Texas Advantage Volleyball win the 2009 Lonestar Classic as a member of the team. In addition, she competed in two junior Olympics.

She worked as a reporter for Houston’s KHOU. Forte was the go-to reporter for major breaking news items on the station’s morning show when he was there.
She was the first reporter on the scene following the Santa Fe high school massacre, and her coverage of the tragedy garnered KHOU an Edward R. Murrow Award. She also covered the 2018 Austin serial bomber, former President George H.W. Bush’s and first lady Barbara Bush’s funerals, George Floyd’s death, and the Vanessa Guillen case.
Janel regularly provides the network’s prime time programming with multiple live shots and packages.
She travels throughout the country to report on breaking news, which she broadcasts on the air, online, and through our 199 local affiliates.
Every morning at KHOU, she did a lot of live shots, mostly on breaking news with a little sports and feature reporting thrown in for good measure. Janel also contributed to Tegna’s noon shows and other affiliates via reporting.
Prior to that, Forte worked as an anchor and reporter for WLOX in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was the bureau chief in charge of gathering and generating news articles from Jackson County, which accounted for around 30% of our viewing region.
Janel also worked as a standalone single anchor and AP on the weekend morning shows at 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
She was responsible for writing, shooting, and editing live MMJ and breaking news stories for several newscasts on a regular basis. Janel also used social media to interact with viewers and produced web stories for WLOX.com.

She worked for Ithaca College Television as an anchor and aide in creating and writing scripts for Sunday night newscasts for four months in the New York area. On Tompkins County’s only local newscast, Forte also provided live, on-air broadcasts Time Warner Cable broadcasts the show to more than 27,000 households. It has earned numerous honors, including the Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
In the field, she worked as a “one-woman show,” conducting research, interviewing sources, shooting, scripting, producing, and editing packages for Tuesday evening newscasts.
