He joined 5 Live, then new BBC Network in 1994 and moved to London. He then shifted to Radio 1 Newsbeat and eventually to BBC Radio 4’s World at One, PM and World This Weekend.

In addition, he won the 2013 Italian Marcho Luchetta International Press Award for a report from inside Syria on displaced families living in underground tunnels and caves. He also received the David Bloom Prize in America for “courage and excellence in enterprise reporting”. He also won an Emmy in 2013 for “Inside Syria’s Uprising” and in 2014, he was honoured with a Peabody Award for his work in Syria that was cited as “without equal”.

In 2014, he was promoted to international correspondent reporting on major breaking news around the world as well as continuing to report on the Middle East. During his tenure, he covered the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the earthquake in Nepal, the migrant crises in Europe and Asia.

In America, he covered destitute homeless families, the rise of heroin addiction, the trafficking of American children into prostitution and gun crime in Chicago. His coverage of Cocaine War in Colombia was recognized with a unanimous verdict by the NBC David Bloom Award. In 2016, he received James Cameron Memorial Award for Foreign Correspondents.

His other awards include an Emmy Award in 2014 for his coverage of “Inside Syria’s Deadly Conflict”. He was also recognized in October 2014 at the Prix Bayeux Calvados Awards for War Correspondents for his reporting of an incendiary bomb attack on a school in Syria.
