Yazmin Frazier Biography
Yazmin Cader Frazier is best known for being the wife of ‘Entertainment Tonight’ co-host Kevin Frazier. She is a civil rights lawyer, state and federal public defender serving as a Deputy Legal Director at the ACLU leading the Trone Center for Justice and Equality. She has taught trial advocacy skills at Yale Law School, Harvard Law School, the NYU School of Law, Georgetown University Law Center, and the UCLA School of Law.
Yasmin is passionate about mentoring and training law students and public interest lawyers, she is involved in Gideon’s Promise, the National Criminal Defense College, and Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop. She also served as the Director of Training for Federal Public Defenders in Los Angeles, a position in which she developed and executed substantive legal and trial skills training programs for attorneys across the country.
She is also a leader in several programs devoted to racial justice work on a national level. Yazmin is a civil rights attorney, state and federal public defender with more than 30 year experience. She has been fighting for racial justice for the longest. She began her career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Damon J. Keith of the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and then through the Honors Program, joined the Employment Litigation Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department. In that role, she litigated employment discrimination claims under Title VII and fought to advance equitable employment opportunities and remove barriers to employment.
In 1995, she began her career as a public defender representing juveniles and adults facing misdemeanor and felony charges, including clients charged with capital offenses and also domestic and international terrorism. She worked as the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, the federal defense in the Southern District of New York and the Federal Public Defender (FPD) Office in Los Angeles.
Her time at the Federal Defenders of New York aligned with NYPD’s Stop and Frisk policy, the 9/11 attacks, subsequent passage of the Patriot Act, and escalated monitoring, enforcement and prosecutions targeting Muslims. While her time at FPD Los Angeles coincided with the rise of nativism and the accompanying scapegoating and targeting of immigrant communities. As a public defender, Yasmin witnessed these attacks on people of color across the country first hand. While fighting for justice for her clients, she also developed a sharp analysis of inequities within the criminal legal system.
She was also Chief of Training and deputy federal public defender at the FPD Los Angeles. She created innovative training programs for new and experienced defenders that are still used as models in public defender offices across the country.

In March 2019 together with her law partner Christine Adams, they co-founded Cader Adams Trial Lawyers, a boutique law firm dedicated to representing companies and individuals in civil and criminal trials. The firm specializes in white collar and criminal defense, employment litigation, government and internal corporate investigations, and high stakes business disputes. They have helped their clients in acquittals in high-stakes federal and state trials, dismissals of criminal charges, non-prosecution agreements, suppression of damaging evidence, and the reinstatement of professional licenses. Yazmin stepped down as a partner in September 2021 after joining ACLU.
