Thomas Matthew Crooks Biography

Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa., is a 20 year old suspected Trump rally shooter in Saturday’s attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump. He worked at Bethel Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as a dietary aide. Prior to the Saturday shooting, he had no prior criminal history or civil lawsuit against him. The gun he used was legally purchased by his father and he also had explosives in his car.

Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022 where he received a $500 “star award” from the National Math and Science Initiative, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Matthew is the son of Matthew Crooks and Mary Crooks. His father is a registered Libertarian while his mother is a registered Democrat. His mother is a licenced social worker and therapist.

Who Shot President Trump

On Saturday, July 13, during a Donald Trump Rally in Butler, Pennsylvania at round 6.13 a shooting occurred and glazed Donald Trump’s right ear as he was speaking.  According to the press statement by the secret service, the suspect fired multiple shots killing one spectator and critically injuring two others. “US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated.”

According to the investigation, Thomas used an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. The investigation still remains active and ongoing and FBI has urged anyone with relevant information to submit it to the agency.

According to FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek, the agency doesn’t know the shooter’s motivation yet and also said it was too early to know if the shooter acted alone.

According to Pennsylvania’s voter status records, he was a registered Republican and the Nov. 5 election would have been his first time to vote in a presidential race.

According to a 2021 Federal Election Commission filing, when he was 17 Crooks donated a $15 donation to ActBlue, a political action committee that raises money for left-leaning and Democratic politicians. The donation was earmarked for the Progressive Turnout Project, a national group that rallies Democrats to vote.
