Terri Austin Biography
Terri D. Austin is an American prominent Wall Street attorney. She serves as a host and legal analyst at Law and Crime Network. She also appears on other networks including Fox News, Cheddar TV, Black News Channel, and Canadian TV. She is a former Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California where she taught two level courses on Advocacy Communications and Ethics in Public Relations.
She is a former trial attorney for Richards & O’Neil and the NYC Law Department, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California, Chief Corporate Policy Officer for S&P Global, and General Counsel for AIG Domestic Claims.
She serves on the Board of Trustees for Riverdale Country School and New Alternatives for Children. She has previously served on multiple boards including Women’s Sports Foundation and Girls Inc. of NYC. She also served on the Policy Advisory Committee for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand during her 2020 campaign for President.

She is the daughter of Amanda Fouther who died on July 20, 1995. According to Terri’s memoir, Amanda won a statewide beauty contest. She earned her doctorate degree and raised her three kids on herself.
Terri said in an interview that she drew early aspirations from her mother who worked in diversity.
“Subsequent to her nursing career, she was one of the very first diversity leaders ever and she did diversity before diversity was a buzz word in corporate America…. I remember thinking diversity was a touchy-feely field. While diversity may involve sensitive issues, these are important topics that must be addressed.”

Terri is married to Bennie. She was previously married to Gary, an aspiring singer and songwriter. The couple first met in March 1984 at a restaurant called Cattails on 96th Street and Broadway in New York City. According to Terri, “I didn’t believe in love at first sight, but when I first saw him singing up on that stage, something told me, he was the one.” Gary asked her for her number and the soon began dating. The couple had their two children and when their son was nine months Gary told her he was leaving her but swore there was not another woman. Not long after he was dropped by his record label.
In January 1994, when their daughter was four and their son was two he brought the other woman to visit his parents in New York during the Christmas holidays. That was when Terri realized her marriage was over. She filed for divorce in January 1994 and the divorce was finalized on April 22, 1994.

She has three children, two daughters Nicole (born in 1990) and Amanda; and a son known as Christopher (born in 1992). Nicole and Christopher are from ger first marriage to Gary.

Terri is an attorney who became a lawyer on her grandfather’s advice because she could argue her way out of everything. She is a member of the New York City Bar Association. She began her legal career as an assistant corporation counsel at New York City Law Department. She later joined Richards & O’Neil as an Associate until May 1990.

Terri worked for American International Group Inc.,a world leader in insurance and financial services, for almost 20 years. She joined AIG in 1990 as an Assistant General Counsel for the Corporate Law Department, where she handled a variety of litigation matters including employment and reinsurance. From 1995 to 2004, she served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of AIG Domestic Claims.
In January 2007 she became the chief diversity officer at American International Group Inc. until February 2010. In her role she provided executive oversight for AIG’s worldwide diversity efforts and was responsible for expanding and implementing the company’s diversity initiatives. Under her leadership, the AIG diversity Website was launched and a full-time disability coordinator was hired to expand AIG’s disability initiatives.
She has also worked as Chief Corporate Policy Officer of S&P Global, Inc. (formerly, McGraw Hill Financial, Inc.) since March 9, 2015. In her position, she updated and modernized the MHFI Code of Business Ethics and related corporate policies to promote compliance, as well as renew employee commitment to its core values of fairness, integrity and transparency. She previously served as the Head of Diversity & Inclusion at S&P Global, Inc. since 2010.
