Richard Watson is an Investigative journalist at BBC Newsnight. He has been working as a Correspondent for
BBC Newsnight for 23 years, Jan 1999 to date. At Newsnight and Panorama, he covers Investigative stories and has won two Royal Television Society Awards – for investigations into illegal gun conversions and the extreme Islamist group Al Muhajiroun.

Besides working as a Correspondent for BBC Newsnight, Watson has worked as a Reporter on BBC File on 4 in 1991, as a Reporter for the BBC Money Programme from Jan 1993 to Jan 1996, and as a Business, Industry & Transport Correspondent for BBC South from 1991 to Jan 1994. The latter was his first job in broadcast journalism Taken on as part of a new intake of regional bi-media correspondents who were appointed to the BBC’s regional news operations across the UK.

Back in 2018, Watson was diagnosed with Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, a rare autoimmune disease, which triggers the immune system and attacks the body. The disease left Newsnight reporter, Watson in a wheelchair leaving many to wonder why he is in a wheelchair.
BBC Radio 2 tweeted on Feb 26, 2018, “In our medical special we look at Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, a rare autoimmune disease, which triggers our immune system to attack the body.” At the time, Watson was a guest at the radio station.

Richard Watson Wife
It’s not clear whether Watson is married or has children. He has managed to keep his private affairs under wraps despite his long-time career in broadcast journalism.
On Twitter, he describes himself as a “Correspondent, BBC Newsnight: skeptical Luddite adopts digital revolution.” His latest time at the time of publishing this article was on Feb 9 when he tweeted, “Full circle for Ed Main & me… Our 2014 @BBCPanorama uncovered shocking abuse of the visa system.
