Steele, who joined ESPN in December 2011, has also filled in as a SportsCenter anchor. She has collaborated with reporter Adam Rittenberg on an in-depth investigative piece for ESPN.com. They researched how Black players were treated in the IOWA football program over the last two decades. Steele previously worked for Bloomberg Television as an anchor and the network’s first full-time sports reporter. While there,  she spoke with NCAA President Mark Emmert and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Additionally, she previously anchored SportsCenter’s coverage of Monday Night Football games. She was the first reporter on the scene at the hospital after Steelers defender Ryan Shazier’s terrible injury. Steele also spoke with Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, on his decision to kneel and stand with his players during the national anthem. Later in the season, she sat down with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton for a SportsCenter segment on the outpouring of support for his foundation from Bills fans after he helped end the team’s 17-year playoff drought.

Along with that, Steele covered the 2018 Pro Bowl in Orlando, interviewing athletes such as Drew Brees, Derek Carr, and Le’Veon Bell. She covered the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., as well as the WarriorsGames. Michelle spent three years as an ESPN bureau correspondent in Boston before coming to Chicago in October 2016. Her reporting led her inside a criminal courtroom to follow former NFL player Aaron Hernandez’s murder trial.  She has also been to Phoenix, Ariz., to chronicle Muhammad Ali’s death, and to Houston to cover the greatest Super Bowl comeback in history.

Moreover, she began her career in sports in 2009, covering Tiger Woods for Bloomberg TV and eventually documenting his return to The Masters that year. She is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), the Alliance Francaise, and the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Young Professionals group. For her involvement with Special Olympics and Unified Sports, she was honored by ESPN in their “Volunteer of the Year” awards among workers in 2019.
