William Michael Haley is the husband is to Nikki Haley, who a former South Carolina governor and is officially running for president in 2024. He is a commissioned officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard who served as the First Gentleman of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017.

Michael Haley Parents and Siblings
Michael was adopted by his parents Bill and Carole Haley at the age of 4. Together with his four siblings, he entered foster care at the age of 3. According to Nikki’s memoir, his biological father was an alcoholic who had trouble with the law. They lived in a house in Ohio with no electricity and no running water which led to them being removed from their home by the state. Michael and his two sisters were put in foster care in one home, and his older brother and sister went to different homes nearby.
His biological mother got into a car accident and suffered a brain injury the weekend before regaining custody and was no longer able to care for the kids which led them to being put in foster care. Michael was adopted alongside his younger sister Lee Anne.
Bill was the manager of a steel mill and Carole was a school teacher. When his parents retired, they moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Michael and Nikki got married in 1996 at St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Hilton Head. The couple met in 1989 at Clemson University when Nikki was a freshman and Michael was attending nearby Anderson University.
The couple have two children Rena and Nalin. Rena, as just like her mother, attended Clemson University graduating in 2021 with a nursing degree and a psychology mino r. She works as a paediatric nurse in South Carolina. She got engaged to her partner Joshua Jackson in July 2022.
Their son, Nalin is a junior at Villanova University.
Michael Haley Military
Michael is an officer in South Carolina’s National Guard specializing in Security Cooperation. He began his military career in 2006 and was deployed to Afghanistan’s Helmand Province in 2012.
He served as a captain in the South Carolina Army National Guard. He served as a liaison between the military and civilian authorities. The unit served in Helmand Province as an Agribusiness Development Team helping Afghan farmers improve farming techniques and develop cash crops to replace opium poppies.

After Haley left her position as UN ambassador in December 2018, she founded ‘Stand for America’, a policy and media organization where Michael is listed as president. According to Internal Revenue Service paperwork from 2019 he worked 40 hours per week but received no compensation.
