Matthew Livelsberger was a 37 year old U.S. Army veteran and Colorado Springs resident who is the suspected Las Vegas Tesla Cybertruck bomber. The cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Las Vegas hotel on New Year’s day killing Matthew and atleast seven bystanders suffered minor injuries.

The explosion occured just hours after another terror attack was carried out by another U.S. Army veteran Shamsud Din Jabbar in New Orleans killing 15 people and wounding dozens more. The police are investigating whether both the incidences were related as they both served at the same Army base.

According to the authorities, Livelsberger died of apparent suicide after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The handgun was found at his feet. He had purchased two semiautomatic firearms legally on Monday.

Matthew rented Tesla Cyber Truck using Turo App

According to the police, the cyber truck was rented via Turo app in Colorado Springs and driven to Nevada. The police were able to track it’s journey from Colorado to Las Vegas as the driver stopped at charging stations along the route.

Turo spokesperson released a statement sympathysing with the victims and the families of the affted in both incidents and said that the renters had no criminal background.

“We are heartbroken by the violence perpetrated in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and our prayers are with the victims and families. We are actively partnering with law enforcement authorities as they investigate both incidents. We do not believe that either renter involved in the Las Vegas and New Orleans attacks had a criminal background that would have identified them as a security threat. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in risk management, thanks to our world-class trust and safety technologies and teams that include experienced former law enforcement professionals.”

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk also released a statement saying that the explosion was unrelated to the cyber truck itself but the large fireworks and/or a bomb carried.

“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.”

He also reposted a Fox News clip in which local police praised the robustness of the cybertruck for ensuring the incident did not have even deadlier consequences

“The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack,” the Tesla owner jeered in celebration. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards.Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken.”

Livelsberger graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University in Vermont with a degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.

In addition, he earned the Department of State Meritorious Honor Award for “interagency contributions that resulted in increased interoperability and efficiency while serving as the Operations Sergeant at Special Operations Command Forward”.

Livelsberger was on active duty with the U.S Army serving in Germany and was on leave in Colorado at the time of the incident according to CBS.

He served for 19 years, spending 18 years with the Special Forces. He joined the Green Beret’s as a commmunicaton’s specialist in January 2006, before becoming a operations manager and team sergeant in February 2023. His recent role, prior to the incident, was a Remote and Autonomous Systems Manager for the Army which he began in November 2024.

Matthew Did Charity Work in Afghanistan

At the age of 22, while serving a tour in Afghanistan, he began collecting clothes, toys and educational items for children and disseminating off humanitarian aid. While doing an interview with News Journal in his native Ohio appealing for donation he said,

“Handing out humanitarian assistane continues to be one of the few approaches of gaining the credibility and loyalty of the people of Afghanistan and I believe you are directly contributing to our success at ground level.”

Matthew was married to Jennifer Anne Davis since 2022 and the couple shared one daughter. According to the law enforcement, the couple had ended their relationship just days before Christmas after Davis confronted him over alleged infidelity. Six days later, Matthew left their Colorado Springs home. He was previously married to Sara Elizabeth Wilson in 2012 but they divorced in 2018.

Prior to the incident, Matthew had contacted his ex-girlfriend Alicia Arlett from the blues as the two had stopped talking after breaking up in 2021. He texted her about renting the Tesla cyber truck and said he felt like batman or halo. Matthew and Arritt had met in 2018 and they both had military service in common. Arritt was an Army nurse at one time, stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany while Matthew served in the special forces.

According to Arritt, Matthew’s behaviour changed after he returned from a tour in middle East with a traumatic brain injury. He became isolated  which she believes was a depressive symptom that went untreated. The relationship didn’t work as  ‘he wanted to focus on his career’.
