Stouffer began working for ESPN in 2012 as a college football analyst. He was a quarterback at Colorado State University, where he holds the record for most throwing yards. Kelly was also a first-round draft pick in 1987.  He established a rookie record for most passing yards in a game with the Seattle Seahawks in 1988. Before retiring in 1996, he played for the Miami Dolphins and the Carolina Panthers.

Stouffer was the head coach at Rushville High School (Rushville, Neb.) for three years after retiring from the NFL. In 2003, Stouffer began working for ESPN as a game announcer for ESPN Regional Television. In 2007, he joined Versus as a college football color analyst and NFL Europe on the NFL Network as a color analyst. Before joining ESPN, he operated as a studio reporter for the Mountain West Network in 2011.

In the spring of 1988 arrived, numerous teams indicated an interest in Stouffer’s services, including the Seattle Seahawks, the then-San Diego Chargers, the then-Los Angeles Raiders, and the Green Bay Packers. Kelly signed a four-year, $3.1 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in April 1988, after a year-long holdout with the Phoenix Cardinals.

Stouffer, the Seahawks’ third-string quarterback behind Dave Krieg and Jeff Kemp, didn’t have to wait long to make his debut in Seattle. After Dave Krieg’s shoulder was separated in September 1988, he started six games for the Seahawks. However, following the 1988 NFL season, he was demoted to the third-string position. In the following three seasons, Stouffer only appeared in five games for the Seahawks.
