Janai Norman is a weekend co-anchor of Good Morning America on ABC News alongside Whit Johnson, and Gio Benitez. She also hosts ‘Oh Baby’, an educational animal show. She previously hosted GMA‘s “Pop News” over the weekend.
Janai has always been passionate about journalism. While in high school, during her sophomore year she took a journalism class that exposed her to basic reporting. By the time she was in junior years, she became editor-in-chief of her school newspaper where she wrote a monthly column on whatever interested her.
While in college, she interned at KMIZ where she was a production assistant for the morning show. She then got a summer internship for NewsOne at ABC. In her own words she ended up “hating it” which made her realize she wanted to be in front of the camera rather than behind it. While trying to figure out the types of media roles she wanted to look into she decided to go into local news. She worked in Oklahoma and Florida. While in Florida she grew unhappy and wanted to leave. She moved to Washington D.C. to live with her now husband and then got a job at ABC News as a multi-platform reporter.

The couple loves travelling together and have vacationed to Jamaica where they spent time at Dunn’s River Falls and Montego Bay. They have also traveled to Argentina, the Caribbean Islands, Aruba, Brazil, South Africa, Tobago and Ghana.

Norman is a mother to three children; two sons one born in December 2017 and the other born in November 2023 and a daughter born in April 2020. All of her children were born at home with the help of doulas and midwives. She protects her kids privacy by shielding their names and faces. She told People magazine that it was all about consent.

She said that she after giving birth to her first child, she wanted to embody confidence and the sense of self-worth as she wanted her son to grow confident and since children learn through example she decided to set it. She also said that there are news directors who won’t allow black reporters and anchors to wear their natural hair on air and decided to challenge that through wearing her crown.
