Hugh Riminton is a foreign correspondent, journalist, and television presenter in Australia and National Affairs Editor and occasional moderator of 10 News First. He previously co-anchored Ten Eyewitness News with Sandra Sully until February 2017.

Hugh Riminton Parents
He was born to John Riminton (father) and Jackie Riminton nee Donegan( mother died on February 13, 2021)in Sri Lanka. His parents were both British. His father managed tea estates. They moved to New Zealand while Hugh was still a young boy.
Her mother Jackie Riminton was a nurse, adventurer, librarian, and advocate for social justice. And although she spent different parts of her life in Malta, London, Wales, and Sri Lanka, Riminton found her true home on the South Island of New Zealand.
She spent the last years of her life in Church Bay, Christchurch, where she was an integral part of the Diamond Harbor community. Riminton worked as a nurse in London and later in Sri Lanka as part of the RAF Nursing Service during her lifetime.
When she arrived in Christchurch, she retrained to become a social worker. Later, he joined the Department of Social Welfare and advised the government on reforms related to the adoption law.
Hugh said that she would remember her mother primarily as a woman who loved art and theater, she had passionate opinions and was determined to raise her four children in accordance with the edicts of her feminism wave.

Riminton was in a relationship until 2001 with Natasha Stott Despoja, leader of the Australian Democrats (served in 2001-02). Hugh and Stott Despoja had an unusual meeting in 2013 when they both sat on the same panel for coverage of the bill from the general election.
He then married Kumi Taguchi after he moved to Hong Kong (from 2005- divorced in 2006).
He started dating journalist Mary Lloyd in 2007 while he was a single father and working at CNN. They moved to Canberra, Australia, in 2009 and wedded in 2010. In 2011 they moved to Cambodia.

Hugh’s wife Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer. Riminton says that it has been the hardest time for him especially due to COVID-19.
Speaking to Channel 10 she had been removed and she is now enduring four months of chemotherapy to keep her cancer-free. She says that Holly inspired her to keep going.

Hugh Riminton Nine Network
Riminton joined the Australian Nine Network in 1989 as a general reporter in Melbourne. In 1991 he became her correspondent in London, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Southeast Asia, East Timor, China, the United States, and the Pacific Islands. In 2001, he was appointed a full-time anchor for Nine Network’s national nightly news, Nightline, where he remained until joining CNN in December 2004.
Additionally, he reported and featured from Sri Lanka during CNN’s coverage of the Tsunami on Boxing Day, which received the Alfred Dupont Award. He also reported extensively on Iraq, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and elsewhere during this time.
From January 2005 to September 2008 he hosted CNN Today with Hong Kong’s Kristie Lu Stout. During that time, the show won the Asian Television Award for Best Asian Country twice.
Later, Riminton left CNN in 2009 to take up a position as a senior political correspondent for Australia’s Ten News. She hosted a Sunday morning show, Meet the Press, in which she interviewed political leaders. He is also the occasional guest host on Network Ten’s premier alternative newscast, The Project.
Riminton was appointed political editor of Ten News and director of the Canberra office In November 2010, whereas Paul Bongiorno was appointed editor of national affairs. In 2013, Riminton hosted the current show Revealed on Network Ten.
Moreover, in February 2014, Riminton alongside Sandra Sully was appointed to host Ten Eyewitness News in Sydney. He moderated the newsletter until February 2017, when Sully took over the solo moderation.
In August 2020, Riminton started as an occasional host of the Brisbane 10 News First Bulletin after the network consolidated newsletter production for all cities after Melbourne (for Melbourne and Adelaide) and Sydney.
He is an active contributor to the well-being of veterans of the Australian Department of Defense and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Soldier On charity.
He was also the president of the John Mac Foundation, founded by Deng Adut in Australian of the Year in New South Wales in 2017. His main role is to fund university scholarships for Australian students with refugee backgrounds.
Riminton is a member of the Advisory Board of Media Diversity Australia and the Crescent Institute, a Sydney-based think tank.
