Prior to joining ESPN, Yates worked for the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons and apprenticed with the New England Patriots front office for four summers. He worked on both the scouting and coaching staffs in Kansas City, and he divided his four summers in New England between coaching and scouting duties.
