Nany Pelosi Hair Salon Visit
On August 31, 2020 speaker Nancy Pelosi visited a hair salon in San Francisco for a wash and blowdry without a mask. She was termed as a hypocrite by the GOP for not following the COVID-19 guidelines.
According to her staff, Pelosi was incorrectly informed by the stylist performing the blowout that the salon was permitted to have one client indoors at the salon at a time. It is alleged that Pelosi employs a stylist in San Francisco who has been coming to her home to do blowouts and the like, but that stylist was busy on Monday and instead referred her to a colleague at eSalon in Cow Hollow, where s/he used to work. That colleague, a freelancer, then allegedly misrepresented San Francisco’s rules concerning salons.
According to CNN, Pelosi’s staff claimed that always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements. Her staff insisted that she wore a mask while getting her hair done except for a brief period when she got her hair washed. The security footage shows Pelosi not wearing a mask as she walks briefly between two small rooms in the salon, her hair wet as if just washed.
Erica Kious Nancy Pelosi
Erica sent surveillance footage of Pelosi’s visit to the salon to Fox News. She claimed she released the footage as she was “outraged” when one of her freelance stylists told her she would be accepting a blowout appointment with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the Union Street salon she owns.
In a phone interview with Fox News Erica said she has independent stylists working for her who rent chairs in her salon. She alleged that one of the stylists informed her of Nancy Pelosi’s visit on Sunday night.
“I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?” She told Fox News that she “can’t control” what her stylists do if they rent chairs from her, as “they’re not paying” at this time.
She claimed that Pelosi’s visit was a double standard.
“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work.” She added that she “can’t believe” the speaker didn’t have a mask on.
“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right?” Kious said. “It is just disturbing.”
Kious said according to coronavirus safety precautions for hair salons “you’re not supposed to blow dry hair” adding that that’s exactly what Nancy got.
“We have been shut down for so long, not just me, but most of the small businesses and I just can’t – it’s a feeling – a feeling of being deflated, helpless and honestly beaten down. I have been fighting for six months for a business that took me 12 years to build to reopen. I am a single mom, I have two small children, and I have no income. The fact that they did this, and she came in, it’s like a slap in the face.”
Nancy Pelosi Hairdresser
On September 2, 2020 Nancy Pelosi’s hairstylist, Jonathan DeNardo released a statement through a lawyer claiming that Kious approved of Nancy Pelosi’s visit. Jonathan had informed Pelosi that the salon was permitted to take one client at a time indoors.
DeNardo also allegedly provided the law firm that represents him with “photographs, video, and witness information” that suggests Kious has kept eSalon open for clandestine indoor operations as far back as April. He also alleged that “Ms. Kious has also been actively encouraging and almost forcing stylists who operate at eSalon to violate [public health orders] for her own financial benefit in the form of [chair] lease payments.”
The letter also suggested that Kious set up Speaker Pelosi “for her own vain aspirations.” The sentiments were echoed by Pelosi during an event in San Francisco where she called the incident a setup, and she said, “I take responsibility for falling for a setup.”
The fact that they did this, and she came in, it’s like a slap in the face.”
Erica Kious Denies Setting Up Pelosi
On Thursday, September 3, 2020 Kious held a news conference denying that she set up Nancy Pelosi. In the statement, she alleged that Pelosi was the one who owes Americans an apology for her actions.
“Hairstylists and other small business owners in San Francisco and elsewhere are doing what they need to do to survive. The point of releasing this video was to show a woman in a high-risk age group who spends much of her time on TV warning about the dangers of COVID-19, feel safe and comfortable in a San Francisco salon, and can be responsible for being cautious and mindful. Why can’t the rest of San Francisco and the rest of America do that too?”
She also claimed that Pelosi’s hairstylist made a false statement.
