We had these canvas cots, we had to fill these bags with hay, and that’s what we slept on.”

The night before the wedding the couple and their family had spent time with their family in a rental home on a peak in the Smoky Mountains. After the sunset they were headed for their car to go to their respective cabins in keeping with tradition, that is when tragedy struck as Pat was struck by a copperhead snake. He was admitted to the ER and fortunately he didn’t need anti-venom just rest. He was discharged after 12 hours and they did their wedding.
