Emilie had previously interviewed her grandfather for a school project about his time in the Poston camp in Arizona and he said he “always questioned why I was in this internment camp. We had these canvas cots, we had to fill these bags with hay, and that’s what we slept on.”

Emilie is married to Patrick McGuire best known as Pat. The couple got married on September 4, 2022 after getting engaged on October 17, 2020. The couple had dated for a decade long-distance prior to the wedding.
The couple were met by an unfortunate incident on the eve of their wedding. The night before the wedding the couple and their family had spent time with their family in a rental home on a peak in the Smoky Mountains. After the sunset they were headed for their car to go to their respective cabins in keeping with tradition, that is when tragedy struck as Pat was struck by a copperhead snake. He was admitted to the ER and fortunately he didn’t need anti-venom just rest. He was discharged after 12 hours and they did their wedding.
