Blayne Alexander is an Atlanta-based correspondent for NBC News reporting across all the network’s platforms including NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Today Show and MSNBC. She is a four-time Emmy Award nominee and has been honored by the Atlanta and National Associations of Black Journalists and the Atlanta Press Club.

She is a co-founder of Phoenix Leadership Foundation alongside her husband. The foundation aims at generating and supporting programs that mentor young black men, support their education and expose them to new opportunities. She also sits on the advisory board of The Scholarship Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping low-income students gain access to college scholarships. In addition, she is a mentor at Cool Girls, Inc., a mentoring and empowerment group for 3rd through 12th grade girls.

In her prior experience, she spent six years as a reporter and anchor for 11Alive News, Atlanta’s NBC affiliate. In addition to her weekday reports, she anchored 11Alive Weekend Today on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

During her time in Atlanta, she covered the shooting death of Michael Brown and protests in Ferguson, Baltimore protests following the police-involved death of Freddie Gray and deadly flooding in Houston. She also did the exclusive coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in 2016. She also covered the two inauguration of President Barack Obama (in 2009 and 2013). She was the only Atlanta reporter to interview Congressman John Lewis in Washington during the grand opening celebration for the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

She began her career in journalism as a desk assistant at NBC News Washington Bureau. During the 2008 election cycle, she was selected to help produce several special projects, including a post-debate focus group with Ann Curry, election night results from Charlotte, NC and, most notably, coverage of President Barack Obama’s inauguration from the US Capitol.

She began her reporting career in November 2009 at the CBS affiliate in Augusta, GA, where she was also a fill-in anchor. In 2011, she was awarded the Excellence award from the National Association of Black Journalists for her story “Secrets of the Down Low.” The two-part series focused on Augusta’s fast-growing HIV rate and encouraged viewers to get tested.
