Aaron Spears Biography
Aaron Spears was an acclaimed grammy-nominated drummer who worked with Usher, Ariana Grande, Chaka Khan among others. He died at the age of 47 on October 30, 2023 but the cause of his death is not public yet.
He received a Grammy nomination in 2004 as a producer for Usher’s album “Confessions”. The next year, he drummed during the Grammys for a medley of Usher’s “Caught Up” and James Brown’s “Sex Machine.” He has also played on tracks by Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and many other major pop musicians.

Aaron is survived by his wife of 11 years, Jessica Spears. Not much is known about Jessica’s personal life but Aaron has always appreciated her but showering her with love on his Instagram. In one post, he created her for “single-handedly change my life for the better and upgrade me in every way.” In a birthday post, he wrote that he wanted to feel “the warmth of your smile for as long as I’m alive…I owe you so much…I am so thankful for the way you always support and love me…I will continue to do everything I can to protect your heart, make you laugh and show you how much you mean to me…”

Aaron and his wife shared a son known as August born on June 3, 2014. He posted him on his Instagram on his 9th birthday with the caption, “Where does the time go?? My G is 9 years old today…🤦🏾♂️ I’m so blown away at who you are becoming…You are a leader with manners that actually cares about people…I love seeing you hold the door for others…IT makes me smile watching you interact with your friends…You consistently bring home all A’s (and 1 B)…You can do anything that you put your mind to…I’m so thankful for you…You changed my life forever in the most positive way…I am honored to be your Dad…I love you Gus!!”
Aaron Spears Drummer
Aaron has been passionate about the drums since an early age. He was raised by his parents in a Pentecostal church in DC where he got his first taste in playing with a band. At the age of 23, he joined up with a local band in DC called Gideon Band (GB). Their music is best described as a fusion of jazz, R&B and rock, serving as the foundation for lyrics spreading God’s word. It is here that he started to really express himself as a musician and gained attention. His work with the and and the great timing of one of his mentors, Gerald Heyward helped him gain the audience of Usher’s MD Valdez Brantley.
After joining Usher, he got other opportunities to play with some of the greatest musicians including Juan “Natural” Najera, Arthur Strong, Valdez Brantley, but also worked with them to produce 2 tracks on Usher’s multi-platinum CD “Confessions.” Aaron later continued with the “Funk Rock Orchestra” (Usher’s Band) as they toured all over the world for the next year and a half. It was on this tour that Aaron began to gain some major attention.
His touring and recording credits include; Gideon Band, Chrisette Michelle, Chamilionaire, David Cook, Joanne Rosario, Lil Wayne, Carrie Underwood, Ariana Grande, Jordin Sparks, Chaka Khan, Adam Lambert, Israel Houghton, Mary Mary, The Backstreet Boys, Miley Cyrus, Tiziano Ferro, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears.
He has also done television production stage. He was the house drummer on the pilot episode of NBC’s Songland that debuted in 2019. He has also served as the music coordinator and drummer for season 3 of Fox’s hit TV show, The Masked Singer.

Jis love, guidance, and warmth were the pillars of our family, and his absence leaves a void that words cannot describe.
We were blessed to have him in our lives, and his legacy will live on through the beautiful rhythms he created and the love he shared with us. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please remember Aaron for the incredible person he was and the amazing music he brought into our world.
