He previously was a full-time Assistant Professor with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and the Department of Health Metrics Sciences (HMS) from 2018-2020. He helped lead two major researches; the first one was examining the global burden of non-communicable diseases using the most advanced epidemiologic methods. He also lead a research assessing the impact of environmental health considerations (e.g., air pollution) on chronic respiratory disease.

Dr. Vin is a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Reserve Medical Corps, where he serves a deployable critical care aerospace physician with the 446th Aeromedical Staging Squadron based at Joint-Base Lewis McChord. He previously assisted with bolstering the emergency health crisis response capabilities of partner nations in Africa as part of the US State Department’s African Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership (“A-Prep”) initiative.

On January 8, 2020, CNBC had reported that Amazon was planning to hire Dr. Vin Gupta as a principal scientist to help it strategize how to deliver better care for its workers.
In September 2019 Amazon said that it was piloting Amazon Care, a virtual medical clinic for Amazon employees based near its Seattle offices. Amazon Care currently offers an app for employees to get virtual-only health advice and medical visits, but there’s an option for an in-person consult via a health professional that will show up at their home or office.
