Usha Chilukuri Vance is an attorney and the wife of J.D. Vance, a republican senator for Ohio who has been nominated as Trump’s vice-presidential candidate. She is an attorney at the San Francisco and Washington, DC law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson where she focuses on complex civil litigation and appeals.
While she was studying at Yale majoring in History, she volunteered to help the homeless, tutored public school students and edited a public school advocacy magazine called Our Education. She also participated in the Supreme Court Advocacy Clinic, the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic, and the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project.

Usha Vance is a lawyer at Munger, Tolles & Olson. She first joined the firm in 2015 as an associate worked for two years and left in 2017 but she rejoined the firm in 2019. Her work in the firm has included helping to defend the University of California against claims that it violated Title IX, and the Walt Disney Company, against claims of copyright infringement.
She as well worked as a law clerk of the Supreme Court. Her first federal clerkships was in the Eastern District of Kentucky, and then in the prestigious U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where she clerked for Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh. In 2017, she clerked for Chief Justice Roberts on the Supreme Court.

Usha and J.D. Vance first met in Yale Law School where they both were in the same first year “small group” of about 15 students who take all their classes together. The couple got married in 2014 in Kentucky and were blessed by a Hindu pundit in a separate ceremony.
While they were dating, in 2013, they organised a discussion group on the subject of “social decline in white America.” The topic was personal to J.D. Vance as he had grown up in an economically depressed area of Ohio, and was raised in large part by his grandparents as his mother struggled with addiction.
